Assessment 1:
Research Report

Assessment Weighting: 40%
In this assessment, you will prepare a report as if you were the Revenue Manager for the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel at Circular Quay.
You are asked to present a report to your hotel’s General Manager that recommends a Revenue Management strategy
for the period 01st September – 30th November 2016.
Aspects that require critical consideration are:
• An analysis of market segmentation to determine the hotel’s target market segments.
• An analysis of the competitor set to determine the hotel’s competitor set.
• Demand Forecasting – to establish a 13 week forecast for this period.
• Channel Analysis The General Manager has already indicated her interest in the changing nature of distribution
channels and has requested that your strategy specifically addresses this.
Notes
Although this report is based in a real hotel and across a current time period, it requires a strong theoretical
framework with reference to the literature.
It must also account for recent changes and predictable events in the area of revenue management.
Current market analysis reports should be used as part of the overall strategy.
You an use tables, charts, graphs to support your pricing strategy.
Format
Executive Report Length 3,500 words. This will be strictly observed.

The final examination will be a closed book examination in the timetabled period of Week 11.
The questions will cover all topic areas covered in the lectures and tutorials, all the named chapters in the textbook
and any readings given throughout the term.
